Mission Log: Time Bandits
Stardate: 62632.88
SFC Date: 2385/07/20
Confronted with a hard choice, Q gives the crew an ultimatum:
I brought you here to see what I wanted you to see.
Q
You came, you saw, it’s time to go.
The crew decide to ignore Q’s warnings and begin work to save as many Romulans/Remans as possible. True to their word, Q leaves the Fortitude in the maelstrom.
Medical Department prepares to treat anyone who may suffer from Temporal Shock or Psychosis.
Engineering/Science Departments begin modifying the transporters to lessen the shock to survivors’ nervous systems.
The crew begins to enact their rescue plan, saving around 2,400 souls with minimal negative effect due to the temporal anomalies in play. At this point, the crew discovers that as they transport survivors the protective field created by Q is degrading. Risking additional field degradation, the captain orders the crew to rescue the group of high-ranking Romulan officers calmly fleeing the maintenance facility.
This time, the Romulans appear to have caught the full effect of transitioning between two environments with differing levels of time-dilation. Those that don’t immediately go into temporal shock, go berserk; attacking security officers stationed in the transporter rooms. Security enacts a prepared protocol and Anesthizine gas is pumped into the transporter rooms.
Security officers subdue all but two crazed Romulans who escape the transporter room into the ship. Security teams deploy force-fields and corner them while reinforcements arrive to subdue the Romulans. Not wanting to risk killing them the security team decides to physically subdue/restrain them and take them to sickbay.
In sickbay, CMO Cren makes the rounds, stabilizing patients as more from the last wave pour in. With proper medical equipment and scanners the medical staff are able to sedate and treat the Romulans suffering from the effects of transport. After finishing his rounds medical alarms begin blaring from one of the bays. The Romulan commander suffering from Temporal Psychosis has gone into full synaptic failure. In a flurry of orders and procedures, the commander is stabilized but will likely require significant rest and recovery time.
With a full ship the captain gives the order to leave the system and to update Starfleet with their status as soon as communications are possible. Meanwhile the captain invites the highest ranking member of the surviving Romulans to a meal in his quarters with the ship’s counselor in the hopes of learning any additional information about the accident.
Along the way out of the system sensors detect ships heading into the system caught up in the temporal disturbance.
Upon exiting the system and escaping the effects of the subspace singularity, the Fortitude is directed to a nearby system to offload the survivors. When entering the system, the ship is met by a Romulan D’deridex cruiser near a starbase undergoing evacuation operations.
After offloading the survivors and sharing collected data the captains get into a disagreement over the Tal Shair operatives in the brig. After exchanging words, the captain gives the order to return to Federation space. The Romulan commander seemingly declines to escalate the situation and lets them go… with an escort.
