Mission Log: Starbase 718
Stardate: 62632.88
SFC Date: 2385/07/20
While waiting to speak to the Starbase commander the bridge crew received responses to several requests for information.
- Tactical Analysis: Valyrian Transport
- Dossier: Zyrdrik (Valerian FreighterCaptain)
- Asylum Applications: Romulan Refugees Aboard Valyrian Transport
The captain, not liking some of the redactions in their asylum requests, ordered the Fortitude into a closer-proximity stations-keeping position to the freighter, fearing some sort of nefarious action by or towards the refugees on the freighter. His instincts were proven correct, the freighter phasered their way out of dock and began to make a run for it.
Not wanting to endanger non-combatants in the area, the captain allowed the freighter to make their escape while maintaining a safe distance. Perhaps noticing their pursuers, the freighter began actively scanning the Fortitude. The order was given and the Fortitude responded in kind, defeating a skilled attempt to block their scans. Interestingly the Fortitude’s scans seem to indicate that the Valyrian crew is no longer in control of the ship and that there are 10 additional Romulan life-signs on board at key locations throughout the ship. The crew alerted the Station that they’re detecting additional life-signs on board and recommended that the station take precautionary steps to rule out sabotage.
The freighter begins making dangerous evasive maneuvers. The situation escalates when the Fortitude’s science officer notices the freighter targeting a nearby vessel. The crew quickly react by targeting and the freighters weapons. A few quick hits disable the ships weapons which are quickly brought back online. The Fortitude fires again, damaging the freighters weapons and collapsing their shields.
Captain Farragut begins planning several contingencies to board and pacify the freighter crew and warning nearby ships to back away from the freighter.
Perhaps throwing caution to the wind, the freighter raises shields again and engages full impulse through a densely populated field of ships. Almost clear, the freighter begins venting warp-plasma. With their impulse engines running dangerously hot, the area behind the ship is flooded with warp-particles, perhaps an attempt to prevent their pursuers from establishing a stable warp field.
Unwilling to endanger other ships in the area by pursuing closely, the captain orders the Fortitude clear of the flotilla orbiting the station; confident that the newly refitted ship can intercept them in open space.
Sure enough, the freighter goes to warp and attempts to mask their trail; leading to a Class D planetoid in the outer solar system.
