The ship has extensive capacity for the housing and support of evacuees. Most if not all non-essential facilities on-board the ship have been converted into housing including but not limited to cargo bays, holodecks, arboretums, etc. Standard housing has been modified to provide more beds at the cost of space. Additionally, crew quarters have been reduced in size and converted into shared housing to further increase evacuation capacity.
Behind the Scenes
Evacuation ships maximize space and crew quarters similar to earlier eras where crewman quarters contain bunks and shared facilities. It is not an easy environment to work and live in but those who ask to serve aboard these ships understand that sacrifices must be made for the success of their mission.
The crew are responsible for evacuees basic needs, counseling, daycare, education, medical, etc. Challenges include maintaining order and fulfilling the needs of evacuees who did not ask for and aren’t used to cramped quarters.
